The only difference here is which side your politics are on. Both are disrespectful but neither is the end of western civilzation.
This is the height of politics. Postponing the debates is going to backfire in so many ways I think and hope. As Obama said, “The President should be able to multi-task.” Duh.
This may play towards the middle of the road, less than informed voters, but it won’t look good towards the undecideds. The best line I heard today was that Obama should say, “Just have Palin debate in your place as a test that she can step in for you.” Instant classic if he says that.
Race will be an issue. Sex will be an issue. Yes people will not vote for people for silly reasons but there are likely equal amounts of people who vote for silly reasons. There are polls showing pissed off Hillary voters will vote for McCain out of spite. Silly, hard to believe, but it is likely.
CNN’s Jack Cafferty -
Race is arguably the biggest issue in this election, and it’s one that nobody’s talking about.
The differences between Barack Obama and John McCain couldn’t be more well-defined. Obama wants to change Washington. McCain is a part of Washington and a part of the Bush legacy. Yet the polls remain close. Doesn’t make sense…unless it’s race.
Time magazine’s Michael Grunwald says race is the elephant in the room. He says Barack Obama needs to tread lightly as he fights back against the McCain-Palin campaign attacks.
Is that why Kerry lost. I really don’t see how Kerry lost. You take the number of Democrats plus the number of Anti-Bush people and it should have been an easy victory for Kerry. If you can’t win on that alone. But if Obama or Hillary was in that race it would have been easy to say it was due to racism or sexism.
Be intellectually honest people.
I am surprised at how well McCain responded to the question but it isn’t even a reasonable question.
If your job is to counsel the President then you have already failed. If you are setting yourself up to be replaced by Hillary then this is a genius move. But I still don’t think Hillary would take that position. If Obama loses she is the only front runner in four years. Since she will most likely not take it, Biden, who has long been forgotten since the first vowel of Palin’s name was uttered, is a non-entity.
There is a three-way race right now; essentially 2 against 1. Obama is looking weaker and weaker. Someone needs to step up and get the train going for him or he will be done, just like Dukakis, Kerry, and Gore. Gore is only around because he had a contentious loss and his movie.
Obama made a boo boo and with some of the undecided women voters, it was a big one. “Lip Stick On A Pig” was not a bad statement on it’s own. If Ross Perot says, “You people..” at a union meeting, no one bats an eye but when he said it at a NAACP meeting, well, that was different.
If Sarah Palin was not in this race it wouldn’t have mattered. If Palin hadn’t have made the “Pitbull with lipstick” comment it wouldn’t have been so readily associated as a slam on her. Now some are saying he has used the statement before and it is just part of his lexicon. I just listened to the 45 second part of the speech which should be embedded above.
He makes two mistakes. First, he makes a relatively long pause before he hits the lipstick remark. Second, he then says, “You can put and old fish in a newspaper…” The pause will look to many as purposeful and by adding the second analogy seems to make it a slam on the other half of the ticket.
I think Obama is learning what Britney Spears, the housing industry and the internet revolution learned, the media loves to build you up high enough to knock you down. Obama has had a long ride as the media darling and you know Hillary is smiling as he falters right now.
If Hillary was in the picture, and I really don’t see her taking the VP slot, Palin most likely wouldn’t have been picked. I doubt Palin is in the picture if Hillary is the nominee. Right now Palin is more popular than any of them and by the time it wanes they may very well win.
What I think few realize is that very few people will cross parties. Hillary voters may very well sit it out due to frustration. Plenty of conservatives said they wouldn’t vote for McCain or do it begrudgingly, that is, until Palin showed up. There is no one in either party that could cause more excitement or attention than Obama and Palin. And that excitement will get the vote out, TO THAT PARTY. I honestly haven’t met an true independent nor anyone who is unsure which side of a presidential race to vote. (Obama would have beat Bush. Kerry couldn’t even get the “I Hate Bush Vote.)
So the true effort is to get more people in your party of their ass. The lipstick on a pig comment may not have the damaging effect many say. It got a rousing applause when he said it. Democrats hate Palin like the conservatives hate Hillary. Pander to your party, forget the swing vote and ride to a win, whoever that might be
They are almost worse than the politicians. They are minor politicians trying to get your vote to watch them. Much like the conventions, the Talking Heads (TH’s) will pander and manipulate while ignoring their own hypocrisy.
One TH railed on Palin for trotting her kids out for the media. He went on and on for quite a while. Didn’t Obama’s kids stand on stage and talk to their Daddy via satellite? The TH’s gave Palin a pass on her daughter being pregnant while they believe in abstinence sex education and lambaste Britney Spear’s sister.
The TH heads are worse than lying politicians. They mislead the public much more than the politicians. They promote the agenda and the facade of these politicians for 7 to 20 hours a week. Of course they are preaching to the choir, just like a cult leader. They may very well start with good intentions, just like unions were once upon a time, but the power goes to their head or ego, thinking they are doing good works.
The worst of it was when Palin was accused of hiding her daughter’s pregnancy by claiming the pregnancy herself. 97% of the media didn’t run with the story, but I wonder if that had to do with it being a weekend more than anything else. I guess it is almost understandable as the mainstream media missed the boat on John Edwards story completely.
We have a screwed up system but it is one of the better ones around. If you are going to vote make sure you don’t get the your information from one source. Listen to the other side occasionally. Understand that everyone has a bias and their comments and yelling are all based upon that. They will miss facts and points and never realize it.
Look around your room and count how many items are red. Go ahead. How many were there? Now, without looking again, how many items in your room are blue? That is how easy it is for someone to forget that Obama had his kids trotted in front of the DNC. That is how they forget how they chastise parents for the pregnant teenagers. If you are going to vote, take off the blinders and make an informed vote filtering out noise.
All politicians seem to lie and pander to get where they want. Hillary just keeps looking more and more desperate.

UPDATE: Hillary didn’t deserve the nomination. She was power hungry. She was a machine, nothing more.
